Melissa Hersh, MD

Board certified in pediatrics, Dr. Melissa Hersh joined Valley Children's Specialty Medical Group in August 2020 as an emergency medicine physician. Prior to her current role, Dr. Hersh served as an urgent care attending physician at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Emergency Annex.

Dr. Hersh has presented on a variety of medical topics to peers through conferences and lecture series, including presenting on metabolic disease and Kawasaki disease. Her work on diagnosis and nutritional management of glucose galactose malabsorption was presented at the 2013 Maimonides Medical Research Day.

Dr. Hersh's love of medicine has taken her abroad, working in countries such as Rwanda, Kenya and the West Indies. She has also volunteered in her community, including as an emergency care technician for the Central Park Medical Unit in New York, New York, where she provided free emergency care to Central Park and the surrounding communities.

After receiving her medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in St. George’s, Grenada, Dr. Hersh went on to complete her internship and residency in pediatrics at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. She continued on to complete a fellowship in pediatric emergency medicine at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California.

Prior to her career as a physician, Dr. Hersh worked as a social worker. The values she formed as a social worker greatly influenced her passions and practice, and she spends her free time advocating for high-risk youth.
