Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Andrew Fontes joined Valley Children’s Specialty Medical Group in July 2023 as a pediatric intensivist.

After earning his medical degree from Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University, Dr. Fontes completed a residency in pediatrics at Phoenix Children's Hospital. He then went on to continue specialized training as a pediatric critical care fellow at the University of Utah, Intermountain Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City.

Dr. Fontes’ research has blended his academic background in molecular biosciences and biotechnology with his training as a physician. His research interests have included rapid whole genome sequencing (rWGS), advances in genetic medicine and stem cell research. He has been published in several academic and peer-reviewed publications, including World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery and Biotechnology Advances. He has also been a contributing author on several peer-reviewed book chapters for publications, including Methods in Molecular Biology and Stem Cells in Clinic and Research. In addition, Dr. Fontes has presented his research in poster presentations at several physician conferences and symposiums regionally, nationally and internationally.
